Why Test hidden page marker

One of the key issues that contributes to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is the inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics for viral respiratory tract infections (vRTIs). Viral respiratory tract infections are the leading cause for inappropriate antibiotic prescribing in the developed world and must form part of any approach to addressing AMR. For this reason, Ellume has developed tests for the most severe vRTIs including Influenza A+B and Respiratory Syncytial Virus and has plans to develop broader multiplexed tests for other respiratory viruses in the future.

It is equally important to be able to identify common bacterial infections and enable their appropriate treatment with antibiotics. Ellume has developed the Group A Streptococcus test and is in the process of developing tests for other important bacterial infections including Chlamydia trachomatis.

Feedback from medical practitioner focus groups strongly suggests that the use of a point-of-care diagnostic will assist in the treatment decision process. This will enable a more effective discussion with patients who request antibiotics for their illness. Patient expectations are an important driver in more appropriate antibiotic prescribing.
